Weyburn Works, Elstead

We are delighted to be working as Employer’s Agent for Clarion Housing Group on a new development in the Surrey village of Elstead. The 19 acre site started life in the early 20th century as Weyburn Engineering, playing a crucial role in British war-time efforts, making parts for Spitfires, Mosquitos and Model T camshafts. Subsequently owned by US firm, Federal Mogul, the factory closed in 2008 and has been vacant ever since.

The site will now be cleared to make way for 69, one, two, three, four and five bedroom dwellings, 21 of which will be affordable homes. There will be alterations to the existing points of access from Shackleford Road, associated car parking and landscaping, and the creation of SANG land. In addition to the previously developed part of the site which fronts onto Shackleford Road, the wider site extends north to the River Wey. Although the site is close to the village of Elstead, a significant part of the previously developed part of the site falls within Peper Harow Parish. The brownfield site had numerous constraints to be resolved before construction works commenced including diversions of existing easements, significant site contamination and de-registration of common land. We have coordinated the project team to ensure key programme milestones are achieved and are looking forward to seeing the new homes built which will be available for local people.
